Prompt: We will leave this prompt as open-ended as possible. Please answer this question in the most informative and "you" way that you can: What does my digital portfolio say about me (my story) as a writer in this class?
My digital portfolio has said a lot of things to me. First, it showed me a possibility as a writer. Since Korean education system is more focused on memorizing things and getting good grades instead of creativity, I had not done that many writings in Korea. However, what I really glad was even though I was not that good writer, professor and my classmates gave me overwhelming compliments on my blog. Especially, the most impressive compliment that I have got during the semester was “Jacob, you’re a strong analyzer”, which Professor Mangini said. I think it made me more motivated and dedicated to my blog! Second of all, I found confidence. As I mentioned, I was encouraged due to compliments. When I was in Korea, nobody gave me a compliment like this. I was an average student, and moreover, my math teacher said that I have to give up my study since I am not smart enough. So, I really lost my way and could not get confidence. Yet, now I found something that I can be interested in and can be very focused on. I obtained positive energy from this class and through my digital portfolio. Lastly, I found myself. I want to describe that writing is an action that reveals oneself, or illustrates own world that exists in my mind. There are so many thoughts in ourselves that we do not even know, but by writing, I could gradually rediscover myself, such as what is my perspectives in certain issues. It was very grateful moments to be dedicated in class again after two years I graduated highschool. On the other hand, my portfolio said I have a lot of ways to go in writing and reading English. I still had problems with my word choice, sentence structure, and grammar. Of course, I should not be so harsh on me, even if I cannot speak or write English like you guys now, but I feel the necessity of being more dedicated in mastering English. Also, I want to say thank you to myself who has been very dedicated and enthusiastic on my writings and moved forward regardless of grades. And, I want to say thank you for everyone who gave me great applauds and sent me substantial compliments which I did not deserve. Thanks to you guys, I feel like I learned better things than grades which was priceless. I want to say it was such an honor to study in the same class with such a great and enthusiastic classmates and superb professor! Hope luck will always be with you guys! Then, farewell.
